ATHLETE’S SUCCESS
WINS HOLLAND STEEPLECHASE IVAN SWETMAN’S FINE RUN UP TO BEST AUCKLAND CLASS Ivan Swetman, a member of the Pukekohe (Franklin) Amateur Athletic Club, won the main event, the Harry Holland Memorial Steeplechase, run over 2£ miles at Auckland on Labour Day. Discussing Swetman’s performance, the Auckland Star Eight O’clock >v. Sporting Edition says: “Swetman ran a sterling race. He was obviously not used to riding over the distance, but after the first three laps he settled down to a solid pace, took the lead, and, finishing freshest of the field, scored a clear-cut win. This athlete is a particularly well-devel-oped runner who has run with varied success at country meetings, but his display on Labour Day gives every indication that with proper training he * /would be right up to the best Auckland class.”
