SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
FUNCTION AT DRURY PRESENTATIONS MADE A large and representative attendance of residents of the Drury district were present this week in the public ball to farewell live local boys on leave. The function was held under the auspices of the Drury combined forces entertainment committee. The speakers included Captain J. 'W. Brooks who made presentations ol' a fountain pen and diary on behalf of the committee, Rev. A. A. Armstrong for the clergy, and Mrs W. Peers lor the women of the district. The soldiers were: Sapper G. Darwin, Driver R. Morgan, from Trentham, and Private R. Mawhinney, Private \\. Hayes and Gunner G. Rogers. A presentation of a wallet was also made to Sapper C. Darwin .and Driver R Morgan, members of the Drury Football Club, by Mr R. Flanagan. Mr E. Fielding of the Oddfellows Lodge, also made a presentation to Driver R. Morgan, one of its members. On behalf of the Polo Club Mr E. Homewood made a presentation to Pri \ale \V Hayes. The mothers of the hoys anil Mrs R. Morgan were the recipients of lovely bouquets. The soldiers (all suitably replied, one saying that there was one thing they didn’t teach them at Trentham and'that was l ow to make a speech. Drury Las now the very creditable record of having 30 or 31 hoys serving their King and country.
