OFF THE STOCK ROUTE
CATTLE DROVER FINED GOUNO I L PROSECUTION instead of following the legally defined stock route through Papakura. a cattle drover, G. Spence, drove his inch along pari of the unauthorised part of the Great South Road from Valley Road north to a holding paddock in the vicinity of the northern boundary of Papakura borough. Tin's short cut saved the drover driving the cattle by a longer route. The prosecution was taken by the Papakura Borough Council (Air S. D. Rice), in the Papakura Court last week.
Till 1 Mayor. Mr S. Kraus. the lon - man. Mr M. .1. Finn, and the town clerk. Mr A. L. Cooper, were present, hut were not called.
The drover's case was explained by counsel who admitted the.facts. lit' told the Court that defendant had had two mishaps: some of Ids cattle got in a drain on another part of the journey, the mob got a fright by a passing train and scattered. These incidents delayed the mob and when he got to Papakura. and being a stranger he asked his way and was directed on the wrong route.
The magistrate fined defendant 11 plus costs Ids. Mr Rice applied for expenses for the Mayor, but Mr Evans said he did not wish expenses.
