THE PAPAKURA CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD AMALGAMATION* DISCUSSED The annual meeting of the Papakura Rugby League Football Club was held in the club’s rooms last week when Mr Les McVeigh presided over a fair attendance. The annual report and balance sheet disclosed a healthy state of affairs. The report further stated that over £3OO had been received in donations out of which no less than £125 had been expended on transport. After several other items of expenditure had been met, the club finished the season with a credit of £lls. Mr McVeigh stressed the increasing difficulties of the club which lay ahead in the coming season in connection with several of the teams. In the senior” team, he said only five could be accounted for, the rest were serving overseas. All the third grade had now joined up and no fewer than 35 members were in army service. Mr McVeigh said he would 'like an expression of opinion, as he would like to feel that the members were solidly behind the executive in any decision the club was compelled to make. Mr J. Miller suggested that the executive should meet in Auckland Rugby League and discuss the position as to what may arise should amalgamation take place. On the motion of Mr Miller it was decided to call a special meeting of the club, with a suggestion that a senior team be formed from the Papakura, Otahuhu and Ellerslie Clubs. Another speaker stated that other amalgamation proposals were: City and Newton and Ponsonby and Mt. Albert, and that Papakura would have to be prepared to do likewise. Another speaker stressed that the club should clearly understand that teams_ amalgamated should function only for the duration of the war. It was understood that junior teams this season would play under their local clubs. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr H. A. Pollock; president, Mr L. McVeigh: secretary, Mr A. Lewis; treasurer, Mr H. Turner; committee, Messrs A. Hill, \V. Tyson, F. Osborne, W. Leighton, E. J. Clarke, R. Bates, A. Burgess, F. Smith and F. Wellrn.
