LADIES’ AUXILIARY
FORMED AT PAPAKURA A decision was reached at a meeting of women held in the council chambers to give every assistance to the Salvation Army hut authorities at the military camp, Papakura. This help wall he given by two ladies of the auxiliary who wall in turn be on duty each evening at the hut. The meeting, which comprised women from the Franklin Zone D district, were unanimous in deciding to form a ladies’ auxiliary and to help in any way possible for the welfare and comfort of the soldiers. The attendance wuis about 40. Mrs H. G. Baulf presided and Mrs Higgins was appointed secretary. it was pointed out that many soldiers were on leave in Papakura last Sunday evening and now that the soldiers’ club had been closed, something should be done by the churches on Sunday evenings by way cf arranging socials after the evening services for the soldiers’ benefit. After discussion is was decided to make representations to the churches on this point. It was stated that the knitting of gloves for the soldiers w r as proceeding very satisfactorily. Any women w-ho can assist in this direction are asked to do so.
