Sharp Rise in Values for Beef

UP £1 HEAD ON WESTFIELD DAIRY CATTLE IN DEMAND I'IDLES FDR B< iNEIiS FIRM STORE PIGS FIRMER Cattte were penned in less than average numbers at the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited’s fortnightly sale held at Pukekohe yesterday.

A very spirited lone prevailed throughout for all classes of cattle. Dairy cows and heifers were keenly sought, lop price being £lB Ids. while beef values were easily ft per head heller than Westfield rales. Values for boner cows remained firm. There was a good enquiry for weaner heifer calves and in-calf heifers.

There was a very large yarding of both fat and store pigs. All classes of pigs sold well, stores in particular showing a decided improvement. Every available pen was utilised and a complete clearance was effected.

Quotations are:— Dairy cattle: Best heifers, £9 10s to £lB 10s; others, £7 10s to £0 7s (id; smaller and backward, £5 10s to £7 ss; best dairy cows, £9 to £l2 10s; others, £6 to £8 10s. Beef, boner and store cattle: Medium prime steers, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; heavy prime cows, £8 10s to £0 17s 6d; medium, £7 to £8 ss; light, £5 15s to £6 ,15s; medium prime heifers, £8 to £9 J2s 6d: light, £6 to £7 10s; fat Jersey cows, £5 to £5 15s: best boner cows, £4 1o £4 18s; others, £2 15s to £8 15s; lighter, £2 to £2 12s 6d; P.A. heifers to £5 15s; young store cows, £5 to £5 7s 6d; heifers, b.r.w.b., £5 to £5 17s (id: Jersey weaner heifers, £2 10s to £3 ss.
