MILITARY TRAINING
FIRST COMPOSITE BATTALION ! ; UNDER CANVAS AT PAPAKURA The first composite ihf'ahtry battaß ion, about 400 strong, including about 40 motor cycles, arrived at the military camp, Papakura, on Saturday. On the same day the First Battalion, Auckland Regiment (Countess of Rani’urly’s own), moved out after a week’s training. The composite battalion is made up from the North Auckland, Waikato and Hauraki regiments and is in command of Lieutenant Colonel C. S. White, E.D., of Auckland. The camp terminates on Saturday next, March ,25th. Mechanised training will be undertaken during the week ir the Clevedon and Ness Valley areas. On Thursday night the troops move out for all night manoeuvres in the same district to repel an “invading force” supposed to be located somewhere near Orere. The army will
bivouac in the open, and retire to
camp sometime on Friday. The whole battalion is fully mechanised and will be transported by army lorries and private vehicles. A sports meeting is to be arranged later in the week. On Wednesday the athletic club will probably run invitation and relay races for the territorials. The camp adjutant is Captain 11. G. Woolley, N.Z.S.C.
