PAPAKURA QUEEN CARNIVAL
FOR PLUNKET ROOM AND PLAYGROUND EFFORTS OF BUSINESSMEN’S COMMITTEE Ambitious Programme Arranged This Week GRAND FLORAL FETE FOR SATURDAY A determined bid is being made by the supporters of Miss Ailsa Cartwright, the Business Queen in the Papakura Carnival. To further her candidature the energetic committee of the business community is organising a series of functions this week, culminating in a monster floral fete on Saturday. This event, which, the promoters state, is to be the biggest event of the whole carnival, will be held at Prince Edward Park, commencing at one o’clock. A feature of the afternoon will be the procession headed by the Auckland Pipe Band, which will be in attendance. This will include decorated vehicles, entered by the various business firms. During the afternoon an aeroplane will pass overhead and drop tickets upon the assembly below. A prize is to be given for the nearest estimate of the ’plane’s height. A seven-a-side league football match will also take place, while sideshows will add a note of gaiety to the function. A business poster competition should also attract widespread interest. On Wednesday next, March 29, a garden party will be held at the residence of Dr. and Mrs G. W. Lock. The queen carnival, whose object is to provide funds for a Plunket room and children’s playground at Papakura, merits the assistance of all. By supporting the Business Queen, you are helping to further a worthy cause.
