SATURDAY’S ACTIVITIES | : OPAIIEKE GARDEN PARTY . “BRING AND BUY” AT KARAKA The Papakura queen carnival activities were continued on Saturday, when two successful functions were held. The spacious grounds at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. A. Patei'son, Cpaheke, were the scene of a most enjoyable garden parly in aid of the United districts’ queen, Miss Jessie Parker. No pains had been spared by the hostess and her friends in preparing I for the guests. The attendance was j large and representative. Lawn games and competitions proj vided ample diversion for all, and the [ fancy goods and variety stalls kept the ; ladies busily engaged. Afternoon tea, which was daintily arranged, had a popular appeal, and was greatly enjoyed. The committee of the Karaka queen. Miss Myrtle Costar, conducted a “bring ard buy”, function on Saturday after- • noon and evening. The attendance • was good in the afternoon when steady I business was transacted. Side shows and competitions provided interesting diversion for old and young. In the evening the programme took the form of a dance with musical items interspersed. Altogether a very pleasant and profitable-day and evening were spent.. The Karaka committee has decided to hold a sports meeting on Cievedon showgrounds on April 29. A scavenger hunt, held in Papakura •ast week, to further the interests of Miss Aiisa Cartwright, the business queen, proved a most successful innovation. All arrangements in connection with Ihe grand floral fete on Saturday at Prince Edward Park are well in hand. The business firms have responded generously to the jffbmmittee's request for prizes for the numerous events, and in entries for the business posters display. Given favourable weather conditions a very enjoyable afternoon is assured. On Wednesday, March 29, a garden party will be held at the residence of Dr. and Mrs G. W. Lock, in furtherance of the interests of the business queen.
