SEA SCORPIONS ON TREK
Trekking a thousand miles was a mere nothing to sea scorpions of several hundred million years ago. This was disclosed when the University of Cincinnati Museum staff announced what they considered one of tlie rarest Ohio fossil discoveries in years, Hie finding of evidence of creatures whose habitat was supposedly a location in New York Slate (says the Christian Science Monitor). The Museum staff reported that it has identified recent finds in a rock layer in nearby Adams County, Ohio, as the parts of at least five sea scorpions and fragments of many shed skins of others. These ancient crustaceans belong to a species new to natural science and lo a genus hitherto unknown in Ohio or, for tlicit matter, not clearly known on Ibis continent outside of a small area in New Ycrk.
A university senior, Charles D. Cox, of Cincinnati, working this summer on a new road near Manchester, Ohio, made the discovery of these specimens which the University’s Geology Department followed up with a quarrying party. Other trips will he made to the spot before frost destroys the recently exposed shale with its precious specimens.
