It was pointed out that it was extremely important to deal with the matter urgently owing to the proposed changes to show dates on account of the centennial celebrations in each district. On the motion of Mr Best, seconded by Mr Stuart, it was decided to make application for February 16 and 17. The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand asked that remits for the 1939 conference be forwarded at the -earliest, that .the names of delegates ana recommendations of names for inclusion in the judges’ list, be also .sent. —Received. ®>Fhe supervisor of show 7 exhibits of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, thanked the society for fits help and kindness in connection with the Department’s exhibit at the autumn show, and hoped that the exhibit had been instructive. —Members -expressed the opinion that the exhibit was outstanding from an educational point of view, some having heard remarks that the exhibit itself was worth the 2s paid for admission. —It w 7 as decided to write the Departjuent thanking it for its very fine exhibit. New Members Elected Fifty-six new members were elected .and five resignations were accepted—a gain of 51. It was decided to comb the district this year for new mem : hers and if possible to reach the 1000 mark. Each member of the executive was asked to do what he could in. this connection. “There are dozens of people in Franklin who would link up with the society if they, were .approached,” was the opinion of one j member. i

A grant of £5 5s was made to 1 lie Franklin Kennel Club in connection 'with the staging of its annual dogshow on April 1. A comprehensive vote of thanks was accorded all who assisted in any way ir. making the 1930 show a success, and all who assisted with the erection of the pig pavilion and pens. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr C. Atchison of Clevedon, over a long period, and in addition elected him ■an honorary life member. Some discussion ensued regarding the society’s membership with the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. It was claimed that the -constitution of the Royal Society required amending. At present the society with a large membership paid over £6 a year and could not get voting power or representation, yet a private individual who paid £1 Is had more power than an A. and P. Society. The question as to whether the Franklin Society will resign its membership is to be considered after the conference of the Northern District Council, which takes place shortly.
