MORE ACCOMMODATION CONGESTION ALLEGED The need for more accommodation at the Pukekohe public library was discussed at last week’s special meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council. A suggestion by the library committee that the present reading room be remodelled and the hours on which it is open be curtailed, was not entertained. It was, however, suggested during the discussion that a lean-to adjoining the library could be utilised for displaying books. Eventually, the question of arranging for more accommodation for the displaying of books w : as left to the Mayor (Mr J. Routly) and the library committee. The committee in a report recommended that the old books tied in bundles and placed on top of shelves in the library, be disposed of to Kingseat Mental Hospital and Public Works camps, Messrs R. Diggle and A. F. Brown to attend to this. The recommendation was approved. It was stated that the total membership included 73 country members. The committee further recommended that a juvenile section be formed in the library for the benefit of persons of 16 years of age and under, the subscription for this section to be 5s pin- annum', but only books placed in the juvenile section are to be made available for these subscribers, who will be entitled to full membership only if the ordinary subscriptions are paid; also that a suggesetion box be made available for the use of subscribers. All suggestions placed therein are to be considered by the committee. The report was adopted.
