EASTER TOURNAMENT. RAIN INTERFERES. BUT GOOD PROGRESS MADE. The Easter tournament conducted by the Franklin Lawn Tennis Association on the Pukekohe club’s courts was so badly interrupted by the rain during the holidays that it was thought at one time the fixture would have to be abandoned. A start was made on Friday afternoon when some 30 matches were got off and no further play took place until yesterday afternoon when under almost ideal conditions some 40 more matches were played. There are still almost 200 matches to go and the management has decided to carry on during the coming week-end when it hopes to get somewhere near finality. All players who were absent yesterday arc asked to be on the courts at 9 a.m. on Saturday. So far only one section has reached anything like the final stages —the ladies’ championship doubles —in which -Misses W. Scott and B. Potter have reached the final after a long three-set match with Misses M. and J. Kidd. In the other half no matches have been played. In the men’s championship doubles,E. and A. Wright scored a meritorious win over a good Auckland , pair in A. b. Brown and L. 11. Watson. This match was full of spectacular tennis and the winners should now reach the final.
