Arrowsmith of Tuakau, whe ! \yas recently taken seriously ill while visiting relatives at Palmerston North, . is reported to be progressing favourably. ! Mr G. T. Parvin, Franklin’s representative on the Auckland Hospital i Board, has been appointed chairman i of the infirmary committee while he has also been appointed to the relief committee. The’Rev. W. L. 'Wood, Manukau’s representative on the hoard, has been appointed chairman of the relief committee, and a member of the finance and purchasing commit- ! tee. The funeral of the late Mr W. E. Rushworth of Tuakau, which „took : place at Otahuhu on Wednesday, was 1 very largely attended. Returned sol- , diers formed a guard of honour at deI ceased’s residence and ‘ marched ■ through the town behind the hearse, j and also acted as an escort on ap- | proaching the cemetery. The pallbearers were: Messrs J. Fulton (representing justices of the peace), F. G. Bagnall (returned soldiers), W. C. Pyatt (Anglican church afid businessmen), D. Annandale (Wallace Supplies), H. Hunter (wholesale houses) and S. Andrew (relatives). The Revs. C. A. Vaughan and L. E. Cartridge officiated at the graveside, and Mr S. • P. Day, president of the Franklin Returned Soldiers’ Association, read the ex-servicemen’s, burial service. Returned men filed past the grave and dropped in poppies.
