LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

PAPAKURA CLUB. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. Saturday’s results are:— Senior B: Papakura, 2; Otahuhu 0. Second grade: Papakura, 8; Glen Ora, 15. Fourth grade: Papakura, 17; Otahuhu, 4. Fifth grade: Papakura, 4; Richmond A, 21. As was anticipated, the game between Otahuhu and Papakura attracted a large crowd of spectators, who, however, were not rewarded with a spectacular exhibition. The game was evenly contested, Papakura having possibly the better of the first half. They were lacking in finish, and poor handling by the backs enabled Otahuhu to keep its line intact. Early in the game, the local centre, Cornthwaite. retired with an injury to the head, and the attack v»as visibly weakened. The Papakura forwards played their usual hard game and were successful in most of the set scrums. Scrum infringements were, however, common on both sides. Both sets of goal posts evaded half a dozen attempts by kickers, until Pope lot a good one over for Papakura “making 6 the half-time score: Papakura, 2: Otahuhu, 0. The second half commenced at a o-reat pace, the visitors apparently being determined to register points.; The ( methods employed not being as per rule book, the referee stepped in with a limly warning and the game proceeded orderly. Play fluctuated up and down the field, but deadly tackling at the critical moment prevented either line from being crossed. Right on the call of time a free to Otahuhu gave the visitors a chance to pull the game out of the fire. However, thqy. elected to try for a drawn game, but the easy kick at goal missed. The game ended immediately after in Papa--kura’s 'favour, by two points. Mr S. Fisher refereed.
