HUNT CLUB.

MEETING AT MARAMAP.UA. BUILDING UP A PACK OF HOUNDS. • The first animal meeting of the Maramarua Hunt Club was held in the Maramarua hall on Saturday evening, Mr J. D. Fagan presiding over an attendance of over forty members. | Annual Report. In opening the meeting the master, Mr J. D. Fagan, expressed pleasure at the largeness of the attendance. It augured well for tbe future, he said. The club bad been formed through the instrumentality of Mr S. Symes, who had approached Mr Bullock-Webster j with the request that he bring the I Pakuranga hounds to Mar.imarua. Mr Webster had suggested that Marama- ' l'ua form its own hunt club, and this bad eventually been done. The club

had nine couples of hounds and eight- ! een pups. These pups would not be f

fit to hunt this season, but the following year the pack would be equal

to any in the North Island. The first meet bad been held on May 10, and since then on every Saturday throughout the season. Til ere had been considerable doubt as fo whether a club could be formed in the district, for there were no horses and no horsemen. Now there were horses and horsemen equal to those in any part of the Dominion. Tbe committee bad decided to have the club registered, and with the assistance of the neighbouring clubs the matter had been advanced and was progressing satisfactorily. In conclusion the master expressed the thanks of the club to the owners of the property over which the club had hunted in the season. Tie also thanked the ladies who had assisted the club, the officers for their loyal support, and particularly :ne secretary. Mrs S. Symes.

The. statement of receipts and payments showed that the income had been £42 lis o|d, made up mainly of members' subscriptions and the proceeds of dances. The payments amounted to £2B 15s 2d, leaving a credit balance of £1.3 15s 10-id.

Correspondence relative to the registration of the club was read by the secretary, Mrs Symes, who also re- | ported on the decisions of the committee and the progress which had been made. Rules had been drawn up and forwarded for registration, and negotiations with the Pakuranga and the Waikato Hunt Clubs relative to boundaries had been concluded satisfactorily. Before the club could be registered the approval of all the other hunt clubs had to be obtained and this referendum was now being taken. No difficulty was anticipated, and it was expected that before very long the matter would be finalised. Officers. Mr H. K. Jones, of Epsom, was elected president, and the following officers were re-elected :—Master, Mr J. D. Fagan; deputy-master, Mr W. Fisher: huntsman, Mr S. Symes; whip, Mr L. Fisher; treasurer, Mr M. Maher: secretary, Mrs S. Symes. It was agreed that P'aeroa and Hauraki Plains be given representation on the general committee and Messrs V. Young, R. A. Wiggins, J. Irwin, J. M. Crosby and E. P. Fathers (Paeroa), E. A. Mahoney (Ngatea), L. S. James (Kopuarahi), P. Wibiams, E. Burling, D. C. Dalgety, E. Eurdus (Waitakaruru), E. Waller ('Mangatangi), and J. B. Parker (Mangatawbiri) were added to the old committee, which comprised Messrs C. Rountree, C. W. Coxhead, W. Marshall, N. Marshall, M. M. Miller, G. Robertson, W. Steen, A. W. Cole and C. J. Adams. Opening Day. It was agreed that the opening day be Saturday, May G, and that a dance be held in the Maramarua hall in the evening. To make the necessary catering arrangements a social committee comprising all the ladies who assisted last year was set up. It was unanimously decided that the club hold point to point races at Maramarua in August. This will be for qualified horses and there will probably be five events for trophies.
