LEAGUE FOOTBALL. PAPAKURA FOURTH GRADERS. A VASTLY IMPROVED TEAM. (Contributed). The performances put up by the Papaku'ra fourth grade League football team must be classed as the best of any of the local teams, and it is indeed regrettable that they lost their chance of winning the grade championship through their team being out of order in the early part of the season. This team suffered only three defeats in the first round, two of the defeats being by one point each and the other by two points. It was the only team tojica'bss Akarana's line and they defeated Akarana (the leading team at the end of the first round) by 3 —2. This team has only been defeated once in the second round and the fact that it has improved of late is evidenced by the fact that in their last game, although considerably weakened through casualties they defeated Otahuhu. It will be easily seen that if this team will continue to take up their game seriously it looks as though it is the one most likely to bring to Papakura trffe; honour of winning a. knock-out competition. It must certainly be pleasing to those in charge of the fourth graders to find that the members are prepared to turn out to training. On the last training night the only two of the local members absent were detained by their work, while.there was only one representative of the second or third grade present. * There is vast room for improvement in the type of play, and the management will have to take a hand to compel training and coaching, as it is evident that a slackness is afflicting the teams. Where players are trained they do not know the rules, and when they know the rules they do not train. As the management has matters entirely in their hands, plenty of players, two grounds, there is nothing to prevent them talcing a firm stand and putting the code on its proper footing.

The above is the opinion of the reporter to the Referee in connection with certain teams in Wellington. Papakura, therefore is not the only place experiencing trouble but then two wrongs do not make a right.
