NOTES FROM DRURY.
WOMEN'S DIVISION, FARMERS' UNION. A meeting of the Drury branch of the women's division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, was held recently. Mrs Rankin presided over a gathering of 26'. Delegates were elected for the next meeting of the Waitemata Provincial Council. Arrangements were also made for the holding .of a social evening in August to raise funds for the division. Several new ideas were used for the first time; the library and the exchange table proved quite successful and the roll call "The household task I most dislike" brought many humorous answers. A competition on something from a sugar hag was won by Mrs D. Bingley, with Mrs Sharpe second. Mrs E. Fielding gave a most interesting and instructive demonstration on the icing of a cake. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Rankin, Legge, Colein and J. Cossey. Bring and Buy Function.
A bring and buy function in aid of the funds of the local Girl Guides Company was held in the Drury hall on Friday last. There was a fair attendance of ladies though the worthiness of the object merited a much larger attendance. A well-filled stall of articles and produce in charge of Mesdames Morton did good business, while the afternoon tea rooms in charge of Mesdames F. Appleby and Theyers was well patronised. During the afternoon a nail driving competition was held, the prize winner being Mrs J. Appleby, and a guessing competition for a beautifully decorated cake donated by the president, Mrs J. S. Doull, and made by Mrs E. Fielding, was won by Mr Walker, of Papakura. As a result of the" function the funds of the company will be augmented considerably.
