LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

INCORRECT REPORT ALLEGED. <p.

Sir, —It was with feelings of amazement that I read the incorrect report in your paper on the presentation of the cups won for the supply during the period September 1, 1931, to May 31, 1932, to the Tuakau factory, of finest quality cream, at the dance conducted by the factory staff. In 1931 Mr Fulton announced" that he would donate two cups, one for herds of 10 to 35 cows and the other for herds of 36 or more, and made it quite clear that the winning qualification was to ■■ be the greatest percentage of finest quality cream during the period It is regrettable that the inability of the persbn preparing the article, to grasp the full significance of the condition, should result in the report that the cups were won for the highest prodction of cream supplied to the Tuakau factory. The full value of the competition, which lies in the words "the greatest percentage of finest quality cream," being thus overlooked. We have all read of the great value to the dairy industry of the Auckland Province, of the Weddel cup, but competitions on the lines of the one inaugurated by Mr Fulton, can, if taken seriously by the suppliers, be of far greater value, because they should result in a great improvement in the quality of the cream supplied, and the factory manager " and staff can only manufacture 'butter of a quality equivalent to that of the cream they handle. % Mr Fulton has given a great lead to the dairy business in New Zealand and is to be heartily congratulated. Another disappointing inaccuracy in your report is that referring to cups for competition for next season, Mr Fulton made it quite clear that the cups had been won outright, and announced that the manager of the Tuakau factory (Mr Addy), had very generously donated cups for competition on the same conditions, except that they were to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals before becoming the property of the winner. I trust that in future more care will be shown in obtaining accurate reports in matters such as this. —I am, etc.,

D. S. EWING. "Glencairn," Whangarata. [Questioned on Monday evening about the accuracy, or otherwise, of our report, Mr Dynes Fulton said, '1 read the report carefully and I say it was absolutely correct." —Ed. Times].
