Butter Market Quiet. Advice received by the Bank of New Zealand from its London office states that the market for New Zealand butter is quiet, and the article is selling at from 105/- to 106/- per cwt. The cheese market is steady, prices ranging up to 57/-.

Daylight Saving. A motion requesting the Government to extend the period of daylight saving from half an hour to an hour was carried unanimously at the annual meeting of the Wellington Head Centre of the Royal Life-saving Society last week.

Vital Statistics.

The registrar of births, deaths and marriages, Mr P. R. Price, Postmaster at Pukekohe, has kindly supplied the folowing details for July, the figures for the corresponding month last year being given in parentheses: Births, 13 (11) ; deaths, 7(9); marriages, 2 (2).

Appeal for Furniture. The Tuakau branch of the Franklin Returned Soldiers' Association is making an appeal to the public for donations of furniture to equip the soldiers' room at the memorial hall. Any person who has spare pieces of furniture is requested to advise the president, Mr Wm. Barnaby, the secretary, Mr J. A. Jones, or any member of the executive.

Sound Financial Position.

Although the Franklin Racing Club showed a loss of £441 12s 5d on its

operations for the 1931-1932 season, the club is in a sound position financially. The balance sheet presented to the annual meeting on Monday evening revealed that thejimount of cash at the bank and on fixed deposit, had decreased from £3,200 last year to £2,402 this year. Despite this the cash position virtually was only £2OO worse than last year, after taking into account the fact that £750 had been paid off a mortgage and that there was a decrease owing by debtors and an increase owing to sundry creditors including mortgage and interest. The balance sheet showed an excess of assets over liabilities of £7187.
