DISTRICT NEWS.

GLENBROOK NOTES. VALEDICTORY. The Glenbrook hall was filled to itsutmost capacity on Thursday evening when a farewel social was tendered Mr and Mrs Richie and family who are leaving the district after a residence in Glenbrook of five years. In making a presentation of a silver afternoon tea service, Mr Saunders referred to the esteem in which the Richie family were held on account of their good work in the district during their time of residence. He stated that at all times, when occasion, arose Mr and Mrs Richie and family were generous and willing helpers, and by their removal the district would sustain a severe loss. They would be greatly mised by the tennis club," hall, churches, ladies' guild, and in all social activity in the district.

Mr Rothery spoke on behalf of the more immediate neighbours and said they would greatly miss the Richie family as they were ever willing to lend assistance at any time and in any way - ; -s\inii Mr Gilmore voiced the sincere regret of the Presbyterian and Methodist churches as they had found Mr and Mrs Richie and family to be very willing workers on behalf of the churches. On the handing of the presentation to Mr and Mrs Richie, the whole assembly rose and heartily sang, u For they are jolly good fellows." Mr Richie suitably responded thaukIng the people for their present? t'on and good wishes, and said that he did not feel worthy of the many nice things said in their favour, and added that Clevedon. the place in which they were making their .future home, was not very far away and that he sincerely hoped that no Glenbrook people would pass his door without calling and enjoying a social cup of tea. During the evening the following items were given:—Mr Stephens, song; Miss Flavell, song; and Mr Donnelly, pianoforte solo. Dance music was played by Mr J. Bellingham (violin), Master L. Bellingham, Mrs Mitchell, Mr'Hawthorn and Mr Donnelly (piano) and Mr Sharp, Mr McKinney and Mr Stephens (accordion). Mr Wallace, of Auckland, contributed several items on the wireless gramophone. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr R. Lowe and Miss V. Cameron. Mr R. Whiston was M.C.

The return hockey match played betwen the Whiri Whiri girls' team and the Glenbrook Bible Class boys, on Wednesday afternoon, on Massey Park. Waiuku, was won by the girls by 4—3. Mr Finnis refereed the game. NOTES FROM POKENO. On Sunday last the Loyal Pokeno Lodge M.U.1.0.0.F., held a church parade at St. Mary's Anglican church about twenty-five members attending. The Rev. Bro. H. V. Salmon preached a very fine and appropriate sermon from the text, "Go and do thou likewise," "St. Luke, chap. 10, verse 37, stressing the world's present dire need of a Samaritan brotherliness. ONEWHERO NEWS. An impetus has been given to football in the district by a donation by Mr D. Anderson, manager of the. Farmers' Trading Company's local branch, o! two trophies which will be presented at the close of the season to the most consistent senior and junior players, respectively.
