NOTES FROM POKENO.
The hall trustees' fortnightly functions are evidently growing in popularity all the time, for on Saturday evening last the attendance was a record, over seventy being present, in spite of the cold weather. The prizewinners at euchre were Mrs A. B. Brown and Mr McAnulty, the consolation prizes going to Miss Parris and Mr P. O'Brien. The usual light refreshments and dancing followed, and was greatly enjoyed. Mr W. McGill assisted with the music. Visitors were present from Mercer and Mangatangi. On Monday evening last, the members of the Mauku Bible Class were the guests of the Pokeno and Mangatawhiri classes, a very enjoyable evening being spent. The visitors were asked to take charge, and under the leadership of Mr Gooseman, three excellent papers were given, which dealt mainly with Anzac day topics and their relationship to church and Bible class affairs. After the closing hymn and Benediction, supper was dispensed by the ladies of the local classes.
