“BADLY NEEDED.”

EXTRA STREET LIGHTING. BOARD MEMBERS’ OPINION. In moving his notice of motion relating to better street lighting, at Monday’s meeting of the Papakura Town Board, Mr H. G. Baulf said he did not want to reflect on what any of the older members of the board had done but he considered extra lights were badly needed. For instance, he said, there was no light at Trentham road corner. There was no light other than at Young’s Beach road, which was the last light in the township going north. Trentham road w r as a particularly dark corner. Another place was underneath the subway. Broadway was not the brightest place either. Several other places needed lights badly and he moved that Messrs Andrew, Bartells and the mover be a sub-committee to investigate and re port to the board in a month’s time. He also complained of two lights being out for a week.

The chairman. Mr H. L. Thornton, agreed that a light was badly needed at the subway. Now thal community lighting had been established he thought some re-adjustment might be made.

Mr 11. E. McEntee said the committee would find it was a matter of £. s. d. When ihe lights were firsl installed they started with 47 and had extended a little each year. However he wished the committee luck. The motion was carried. Mr D. Weir said there was something wrong with the lighting of Ihe triangle. “You could take a couple of lights away and never miss them,” he said. Mr Weir’s idea was that one light should be more in the centre of the triangle.
