REGIONAL PLANNING.

SUPPORT FROM PAPAKURA. MR McENTEE’S OPINION. The director of town planning, Mr Mawson, advised Monday’s Papakura Town Board meeting that a meeting of the Town Planning Board was held on May 20 and that it resolved, “that it be a recommendation to all the local bodies concerned to pass a resolution deciding to unite for the purpose of preparing a regional plan for the whole of the area within their several jurisdictions.” The area given extended from Tuakau to Henderson and included the counties of Waitemata, Franklin, Great Barrier and Manukau, 10 town districts and 10 boroughs. Mr Mawson added' that on receipt of a resolution passed by two or more of the local authorities concerned the board would proceed to gazette the boundaries of the region and would advise the board what further steps should be taken for the setting up of the committee and the preparation of same. Mr McEntee said in support of the scheme that a good deal of confusion existed and still existed between town planning and regional planning. Regional plan-V nin, he said, was to plan out the whole of the utilities and to lay out such on a broad scheme. “It is a great pity,” said Mr McEntee, “we did not have something of the kind years ago, as it would have been of great benefit.” He gave as an Ulustration nearer home —the much debated stock route. Under the scheme this would have been taken in hand by the various bodies concerned. “It’s a thing that’s got to come. Somehow or other the counties seemed scared of it. On the other hand town planning has to be handed carefully,” said the speaker. A resolution deciding to unite with the various local bodies was carried unanimously.
