FIRE BRIGADE.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT 1,250 FEET OF HOSE AVAILABLE. At Monday evening's meeting of the Papakuru Town Board the chairman of the Fire Brigade Management Committee, Mr 11. E. McEntee, presented the following report:— "Since the last report of the committee no fires have occurred in the district, but the brigade members been regular in attendance at practices. "The brigade is now equipped with a further 350 feet of new hose. A jointing machine was procured so that the hose is now all effective for fire fighting purposes. An extension ladder has been procured, and the ladder formerly possessed by the brigade was disposed of at a satisfactory price. "Fire Escapes: The committee desires to draw the attention of the board to tli3 inadequate piovision for fire escapes, and also to the danger that at present exists owing to the infringement of regulations by persons storing dangerous goods in other than duly authorised places. i

"The committee has authorised the purchase of six medals and a certificate, the medals being for five years service on the brigade and the certificate for three years. "Syren for Fire Engine: Enquiries arc being made in respect, to the purchase of a suitable syren for the fire engine, as it is necessary to have same installed to meet the requirements of insurance." It was decided to draw the health inspector's attention to the matter of tire escapes.

The inspector of explosives is to be communicated with in reference to the storage of explosives. Authority was given for the tarsealing of the floor of the fire station. “The brigade has now 1,250 feel of hose available, the large proportion of which is new,” said Mr McEntee. “Although the brigade has cost the board £IOO a year in the past, there will be no cost for hose next year.” This the members regarded satisfactory.
