THE PUKEKOHE GREENS.

ONE TO BE RE-LAID

A special general meeting of the Pukekohe Bowling Club was held on Saturday evening, the. president, Mr James Pollock, presiding over a large attendance, of members.

The meeting- considered a recommendation submitted by a special grounds committee that the original green, situated between the new green next the pavilion, and the winter green next Massey Avenue, be re-laid. The green, which has been down for 14 years, is in very bad condition, and it was stated that the only way of satisfactorily dealing with the green was to skim the surface to a depth of one inch, the turf to be stacked and allowed to rot for top dressing in the future. The next inch of soil is to be loosened and thoroughly aired and sterilised, after which it is to be levelled and put, down in grass. The estimated cost was £SO, provided the members gave voluntary labour. It was stated that the happiness of bowlers and the success of a club depended on the state of the greens. Afte.r much discussion the recommendation was adopted, and the work is to be carried out under the supervision of an expert. It was decided to approach the Borough Council with a request that the water main in Massey Avenue be enlarged, and that a light be erected opposite the bowling green in this street.
