PLUNKET WEEK.

GARDEN FETkf AT HIGH SCHOOL.

PREPARATIONS VVELL IN HAND

Preparations for the garden fete to be' held in the High School grounds on Saturday are now well in hand. The event promises to be one of the most successful in the history of the school. There will he something that will appeal to every one, whether young or old, man or woman, boy or girl, while for the babies there is a baby show. Bran tubs and fish-ponds have been made for the youngsters; there are tennis and dancing for young people, stalls for the sale of produce, cakes, sweets and flowers.

The garden fete has been organised by Mrs W. F. J. Munro, who has been ably supported by Mrs W. H. S. 'Gee, and many ladies of the Plunket Committee. Where so much and so willing service has been given there is every prospect of the result fulfilling one’s hopes. Mrs Gee has been training about a dozen girls during the last five or. six weeks to do the Maypole dance. The bright colours, pretty dresses, and neatly executed steps of the dance, should well reward a visit to the fete.

In addition, the annual athletic sports are to be held this term, being postponed from the first term on account of the epidemic. Among other attractions there will be a tug-of-war among the four houses into which the school is divided, and an old boys’ race. Through the flying of the house flags arid the industry of the scholars over £ls is now in hand for tickets sold and many more will be sold as the event draws nearer and the weather improves. Mr ■ John Routly, Mayor of Pukekohe, will open the fete, while the Pukekohe Municipal Band will enliven proceedings with appropriate music.
