STATE ECONOMY.
FURTHER ACTION URGED. The executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union has appointed Messrs Duxfiekl, Harding and Ross a committee to go into the question of recommending economies which could be adopted by the State. At the last meeting of the executive the following official reply to a union communication on the subject was read : “That steps taken by the Government to effect economies and improved efficiency in the Public Service were instituted in 1921 by the appointment of a special and expert committee of permanent heads. The valuable report received by the Government from the committee’s deliberations enabled the Government to set about a defined policy of saving and economy. In addition to the results referred to, the Govern nent has effected reforms in the different departments making for increased efficiency, and is continuing where possible its policy of economy.”
