DEATH OF POPULAR BRITISH COMEDIAN
(Rec. 9.30 a.m.) LONDON. June 25. Tire death has occurred of Billy Merson (66), the music hall comedian. [William H. T. Merson, who was born at Nottingham in 1881, was a well-known actor and comic vocalist. He made his first appearance. on the variety stage at Birmingham in 1900, and for some years toured the provinces as an acrobat and clown under the name of Ping-Pong. _ He first appeared in London in 1905. Well-known plays in which he appeared as a comedian were ‘ Huilo, America,' ‘ Whirled Into Happiness,’ ‘My Son John.’ and ‘ Rose Marie.’ Among his popular songs were ‘ I’m Setting the Village On Fire,' ‘ I’m Going Awav,’ and ‘ The Spaniard That Blighted My Life.’]
