ST. JOHN AMBULANCE AWARDS PRESENTED
Service medals, bars, and certificates were presented by Assistant Commissioner A. G. Swanson to those who had gained them during the last few years, at a function at St. John Ambulance headquarters. The assistant commissioner, who was accompanied by District Superintendent T. H. Mnlholland and Lady District Superintendent E. L. Applegarth, was introduced by Corps Superintendent L. V. Stewart, lie congratulated all those who were to receive awards, and then presented them as follows : Fourth Bar (:J2 years' service). — Lady District Officer McKuight (exWellington). Third bars (27 years): Lady District Superintendent E. L. Applegarth and Ambulance Sister A. Smart. Second bars (22 years) : District Officer F. I). Klines (in absentia). Lady Divisional Superintendent K. Steed man. First bars (17 years) : Lady District Officer S. Pervett, Corps Officer A. R. Me K wan (absent), Ambulance Sisters M. C. Dawson (absent) and B. Kennard. Twelve years’ service medals: Corps Superintendent L. V. Stewart. I). S. McLean, Corps Officers E. Flawu, Ambulance Officers J L. Mowat. A. Crighton. S. Lyon (absent), and J. Gillick, Divisional Superintendents A. Reynolds, J. Peii6en. J. McPherson (resevre, absent), and T. F. McLennan and Sgt. W. E. Motion. Mesdamcs J. O'Callaglian (absent). R. Sime. and M. Warrington. Five, years’ certificates: Corps Officers W. 11. Saunders and A. J. Symonels (reserve). Divisional Superintendent A. E. Buckingham Ambulance Officer J. G. Macdonald. ’ Cadet Officer IR. G. Warrants of appointment were issued to the following members: — Dr Purves. Dr J. L. Malcolm. Dr D. V. Strang as divisional surgeons; lire E. Ilay, Mrs 1). Gibson. E. Flawn, and H. H Gilligan as corps officers; L. V. Stewart, corps superintendent; Mrs E. Taylor. Mrs M. K. Atkinson. Mrs R. Sime. and Mrs I. Otten as divisional c-adet superintendents; Messrs 11. Hay and W. Spence, cadet superintendents (ambulance); H. G. Harris, cadet officer; W. Coward, divisional superintendent; Miss W. Lyon, lady ambulance officer; and also Mrs A. O’Connor, lady ambulance officer. Demonstration certificates were presented to the following:—L. V. Stewart. E. Elawu, W. H. Saunders (corps staff), W. Spence (Mosgiel). also lecturer's certificate; G. Schmidt, C. Meldrum (Kaikorai), M. Blair. R. Sime, A. O’Connor (Dunedin nursing); also Mesdames M Robinson. J. Harris. J. Mackay. After the presentation Dr B. Monheimer gave a lecture on the sulpha drugs and penicillin, their origin and use.
