(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 24. The Management Committee, of the Wellington Rugby Union to-night suspended a junior Maori footballer for life following a charge of assaulting a referee on the field. This is believed to be the first sentence of its kind inflicted by the union. This jwas the sequel to a match on May 31. Three persons, the Maori boy, the coach, who called his team off the field during the progress of the game, and a player who was ordered off for objecting to the referee’s ruling, were notified to appear before the union. Only the latter two did so. The coach was suspended for the remainder of the season. It was decided to caution the player ordered off for objecting to the referee’s ruling.
