TRAMWAYS DISPUTE COMING BEFORE COMMITTEE TO-NIGHT
Tile dispute between Dunedin corporation transport employees and the Transport Committee of the City Council on the interpretation of the industrial award will come before a fresh meeting of the Disputes Committee this evening. The chairman will he the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr A. B. IRigg), of Christchurch. The dispute arose over the interpretation of the award so far as payment for Sunday work is concerned, the union contending that men rostered for Sunday employment should be ’ paid notwithstanding the fact that tto employment could at present be offered them. Both parties to the dispute to-day told the ‘ Star ’ that they were hopeful of an amicable Settlement being reached, ft is believed that the decision of the union to hold a stop-work meeting to-morrow night if settlement had been reached has been withheld until at least after the meeting of the Disputes Committee. It is probable that- the Disputes Committee will consist of the same personnel as at Monday night’s meeting., when the city corporation was represented by Cr J. McCrae, chairman of the Transport Committee, Cr Wright (who deputised for Cr Connolly, M.P.), and Mr L. C. Greig, the transport engineer, and the union’s representatives were Messrs W. 'B. Richards. A. E. Scoones, and L. MdEiitCe.
