DAKOTA PLANE FOR U.S.A. OFFICIAL AT WELLINGTON

A Dakota air transport intended for the use of tlie American Military Air Attache, in Wellington left Perth early this morning in continuation of the journey from Washington to New Zealand. ' The plane, the captain of which is Lieutenant R. L. Evans, is making an easterly journey of 20,000 miles, instead of the 6.000-mile direct route, because of the shorter Hops involved. The longest leg of the journey so lar, across the Timor Sea from BatHvia to Broome, was covered without difficulty. but on the direct run the crew would have been confronted with the more hazardous long crossings of Hono. lulu to Fiji and Fiji to New Zealand.
