FAT SHEEP VALUES RISE SHARPLY AT BURNSIDE TO-DAY

Competition was again keen for all classes of fat sheep at to-day's Burnside stock sale. The entry was smaller than usual, and values showed an increase of fully 3s a head above last week’s high values. Extra prime quality wethers auctioned up to 60s; prime heavy, 55s to 575; prime, 52s to 54s 6d; medium, 45s to 46s 6d; and light from 395. Prime heavy ewes realised up to 40s; prime, 35s to 38s; medium, 30s to 32s 6d; and light from 28s. There was again a good demand for best quality ox beef, while the medium and ordinary sorts' sold at about the usual rates. The sale could be described as firm, although a shade better than last week. Prime heavy bullocks realised up to £3l 17s 6d; prime, £26 to £2B; medium, £2l 10s to £23 7s 6d; and light from £l7 17s Gd. The entry of fat lambs, the last for the season, was a small one, and the quality was below average. The best sorts made from 36s to 38s Gd. There was a keen inquiry for store cattle, and the entry was the largest for nfiuiy months. Best three and four-veaV-old steers auctioned up to £ls 15s; two and a-half to three-year-old. £l2 15s to £l4.

The demand for baconers and porkers did not compare with late sales, and prices generally were lower. Best baconers brought from £7 15s to £8; medium, £6 12s to £6 18s; best poiflrers from £4 ss, and medium from £3. 10s.
