A MEATLESS DAY EACH WEEK
SYDNEY. April 28. To aid tbe meat for (Britain campaign, the State Minister of Tourist Activities and Immigration, Mr F. J. Finnan, to-day ordered all hotels and holiday resorts under Government control to institute one meatless day each week. The date will be fixed by managers of hotels in consultation with the department. Members of the Residential Hotels’ Association have already decided to observe May 2 as a meatless day, and others are following suit. If all Sydney cafes and restaurants join the movement. 50.0001 b of meat will be saved weekly for shipment to Britain. No cuts in Australian food rations are . proposed in the report of a Cabinet sub-committee appointed to examine the possibility of increasing food supplies to Britain. The report proposes tighter controls and minor adjustments to step up shipments. The committee pins its hopes on larger supplies of meat, becoming available for export. Cabinet is expected to endorse the report without insisting on further rationing to assist Britain.
