HUNGER STRIKES NUMEROUS
COLOGNE WORKERS COMBINE (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 2. Twenty thousand miners stopped work at Gelsenkirchen in the British zone as a protest against the food shortage. All Cologne workers, except electrical technicians, stopped work. The German Regional MinisterPresident for the North Rhine-West-phalia, Rudolf Amelunxes, agreed to broadcast an appeal to the. Ruhr miners to reconsider their decision for a one-day strike to-morrow (not Friday as previously cabled). Twenty thousand persons stopped work for the day at Remacheid, and 6,000 demonstrated at Neuss. Hunger demonstrations also occurred at Herne, Buer, Wesel, and Bielefield.
