U.S. MINES DIRECTOR RESIGNS
NEW YORK, April 1. The Governor of Illinois, Mr D. H. Green, arrived at the scene of the Centralia colliery disaster to-day and announced the resignation of Mr Robert Medhill as Director of the Department of Mines and Miners “ for the good of the service.” Earlier, Inspector Driscoll Scanlan had charged that Medhill had prohibited mine inspectors from exercising their duties or their authority to close unsafe mines. t
