WARNING IN AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, March 4. All supply authorities were requested by the State Hydro-electric Department at 3.30 o’clock this afternoon to prepare for possible lower power cuts up until 6 p.m.,-and to reduce their load by 10 per/cent. In the morning the power station was found to be overloaded, and reductions amounting to 5 per cent, were made in both the voltage and the frequency. This cut slowed electric clocks, and while it was imposed a loss of three minutes in the hour resulted.

' A message was sent to all power boards asking them to keep within their allocations to avoid any cuts. It was then necessary to wait and see if these requests, were met. In the afternoon, when the position deteriorated, warnings were broadcast to consumers to conserve electricity, and a further demand was made upon the supply authorities for a reduction.
