ISLANDS OF ICE
Hindering Relief Shipments to Europe
(Rec. 1 0 a.m.)
LONDON, February 1 7
There is . still no indication of a break in Britain s' 1 freezing weather, which has lasted a month. The Ministry forecasts a continuance of the cold conditions for several days. The temperature in London this morning was 26deg, two degrees colder than yesterday. Half-a-mile-wide islands of ice from the Baltic are floating into the Frisian Islands and Heligoland and regions of the North Sea, slowing relief shipments of fuel and food to areas in Europe cut off by the month-long cold wave, says the Associated Press Paris correspondent. Practically the whole of Europe, except a belt along the Mediterranean coast, remains locked in the grip of severe weather. There is no prospect of an early break. Berlin, Oslo, Paris, and Brussels all reported temperatures below freezing point.
