GIRL DROWNED IN BATHS. A fatality occurred in the Invercargill tepid baths about 5.30 pun. yesterday, when a girl lost her life. She was Joyce Noeline McDougall, aged 13 years and 11 months, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs John McDougall, of North road, Waikiwi. There were nearly 200 children and adults in the baths at the'time. Soon after the girl had dived in at the shallow end she was seen to be in difficulties. M. Jones, a swimming coach, jumped in fully clothed and carried her to the side of the pool. Artificial respiration was unsuccessful HAND CAUGHT IN PRESS. Suffering from injuries to the right hand, received when it was caught in a press at the Argent Packing Company’s works, Arthur Milner, aged 16, of 26 Gladstone road, Mosgiel, was admitted to Hospital yesterday. JAW INJURED. Injuries to the lower jaw, received while playing cricket at Tomahawk, inecessitated the admission to Hospital yesterday evening of Alistair Drain, agecj 18, of 18 Oakland street. Anderson’s Bay. DROWNED OFF PIGTON FORESHORE. Miss Isobel Frame (20), of Oamaru, was drowned off Picton foreshore yesterday, She went bathing in the afternoon soon after her arrival from the south, and soon afterwards people on the foreshore noticed her floating in a peculiar way. Mr Charles Wise went out from the wharf in a boat, dived overboard and brought Miss Frame to /shore. Artificial respiration was applied and she was given attention by a doctor who was urgently summoned, but all efforts were unsuccessful. —Blenheim message.
