STUBBORN FARMER
DISCOURTESY TO GOVERNOR REFUSES RIGHT OF WAY ON BRIDGE (P.A.) BLENHEIM, Fell. 18. The one-way- bridge along the routes taken by the Vice-Regal party during their visit to Marlborough and Nelson are being patrolled by police as the result of an incident which occurred when the Freybergs were coming to Blenheim by car from Christchurch. The Vice-Regal car and a truck laden with milk cans, and driven by a farmer, almost arrived simultaneously on the ' one-way bridge, and the question arose as to who would give way. The farmer stubbornly refused to back some five or six yards, which would have given sufficient clearance for the Vice-Regal cars .to pass, arid eventually Sir Bernard Freyberg v ordered his chaffeur to back some 30yds, allowing the farmer to go through. The Governor-General and Lady Freyberg are paying their first official visit to Marlborough province. Yesterday they were the guests of honour at a series of functions, including. a civic reception and a special gathering of ex-servicemen, and to-day are making an official visit to Picton.
