FAST AND NOISELESS DANGER

TO TBS EDITOR. Sir, —It would be interesting to know who pays for the advertisements and halls for the trolly bus campaign. Why was only the one-sided film shown ? Why was one not shown disclosing an up-to-date tram service run under proper management? If the buses are to run a faster schedule and cross to the footpaths to allow passengers to alight they will have to run at a dangerous speed ? Why were the trams not speeded up? Deafness has often been given as a cause of accidents, and if the buses are noiseless this will be anadded danger to pedestrians. So far as cushioned seats are concerned, if the bues are to pay many will nave to stand, so why make it more comfortable for a few ? Why are the tram seats not cushioned? With children standing on the seats and dirt and dust being ground into them when the wind blows the cushions will not be so easily cleaned as wood seats, which are comfortable enough for the short time the majority use them, if* the cars and tracks were kept in proper order. I consider the Albert street loan enormous and that we should get a detailed account of how it would be spent. The other loan is also very large, but doubtless part of the interest, repairs, and losses will be charged to reconstruction, thus allowing the trolly buses to show a profit for five years. With more motor cars and bicycles coming into use how can councillors be so sure that trolly buses will pay?—l am, etc., February 17. Stick to the Trams.
