TEN TEAMS UNBEATEN

CLARIDGE HOLDS ONE LIFE BUCHAN AND LOVE FORGED TO DEFAULT (I*.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 17. Ten two-lifcns and 30 one-ltiters remain in tlie fours championship at the Dominion bowling tourney, play in which was resumed to-day in sunny and mild weather. Three rounds of 14 ends were played. The unbeaten fours are: A. Clark (Barrington), A. L. Lambess (Whangarei), A. D. Scott (Seatoun), R. Henry (Sydenham), T. T. Skoglund (Otahuhu), S. L, London (Wellington), E. H. Clinkard (St. Johns), T. Adams (Karori), W. F. ,Sherwood (Seatoun), and W. 11. Fleming (Newtown). Prominent among those eliminated were F. White’s Ruiianga four, winners at Christchurch last year, M. J. Squire (Hawera), T. A. McClymont (Ponsonby), R. Haworth (Canterbury), and F. Livingstone (Onehunga).

The tournament was continued at 1 p.m. on 10 greens. Though these naturally played stiffly following three days’ rain, they improved during the afternonn.

At the commencement fours skipped by the following had notified their inability to carry on in the interrupted competition:—Love (Port Chalmers), Lobb (West End, New Plymouth), Ritchie (Inglewood), Buchan (Balmacewen), Vella (Onehunga), Gleeson (Papatoetoe), Mason (Vogeltown), Gaffney (Canterbury), and Dyson (Hallyburton Johnstone). Vella, who is left in the singles, is remaining to contest that event. NOTABLE DEFECTIONS.

Among notable players who failed to survive the second round were T. F. Mitchell (Blenheim), who lost after a good game to W. P. O’Neill (Runanga) and rather early to A. J. Thompson (Greytown); T. A.- McClymont (Ponsonby), who lost his first to T. Adams (Karori) and after a keen finish to W. Fuller (Waitara) ; R. Haworth (Canterbury), who lost to L. Kyle (Hutt) alfter a close finish, but was well 'behind R. Hawkins (Paritutu); and M. J. Squire .(Hawera), who lost to A. Clark (Barrington) by a point aud to G. K Piper (Matai) by a considerable margin. . Among those eliminated in the third round were the 1946 champion four skipped by F. White (Runanga), who went down in a fighting finish with H D. Field (Karori), but scored only one point against L. W. Besley (New Brighton). This round, too, saw the elimination of Livingstone (Onehunga) by S. L. London (Wellington) and O’Neill (Runanga). O’Neill won on an extra end, 14-13. After accounting for H. A. Leadbetter (Karori), W. Bremner (Epsom) was beaten by J. Armstrong (Runanga) 13-12. E. P.. Exelbv (Frankton Junction) was down 2-15 in bis first round game against C. Watt (Hataitai), but won on an ex T tra head by one point. He lost his first life in the second round to R. Henry (Svdenham) by a single point. In the third'round he defeated W. F. Reid (Masterton) 12-11.' In the third round encounter between H. E. Wenham (Levin) and G. FI. Piper (Maitai) Wenham was leading 13-8. when Piper scored 6 and ran out a winner by 15-13.
