KAIKORAI BAND
CARNIVAL OPENED The Kaikorai Brass Band’s carnival was opened at Bishopscourt last night before a large crowd. The deputymayor, Cr McCrae, opened the proceedings, and in his remarks said that it was the duty of the public to support tho band in its attempt to raise funds to participate in the contest to be held soon in Wanganui, as the band had done much for the city. The tug-of-war was keenly contested and Ocean Beach was the winning team. The final for the cup, between Ocean Beach and Brockville, will be held to-night. The band of the Ist Battalion of the Otago Regiment, under the direction of Captain L. 0. Aston, played a selected programme. The carnival will be continued tonight, and to-morrow afternoon and night, and an open-air concert will be held at Bishopscourt on Sunday at 8 p.m.
