WINGATUI TRACK WORK

PREPARING FOR SOUTHERN MEETINGS

The tracks at Wingatui have dried out quickly during the past few days, and this morning the sand, where most of the work took' place, was in good, order. About nine horses will make the trip south to race at Winton on Saturday ,while several more will be on hand for the Invercargill meeting a week later.

•loygiver took no harm from the two races he had at Gore, and he worked very freely over two rounds on the sand. He was under a good hold all the way and was not asked to do his best.

Red Rickie, who will not race again until the Stewards’ Handicap, was let off with slow work. The Salmagundi gelding is in good order at present. On the sand, Air Lord and Punjab were not extended to cover half a mile in 51*. . Speedy and Triumphal required 52* to complete a similar task. Miss Chabo drew clear of Artful Maid, Desert Trek, and Pnlmona over the early stages of >a five-furlong gallop on the sand, but at the post Artful Maid just shaded Miss Chabo and Desert Trek, with Palmona several lengths back. After taking 13 for the first furlong, the full journey was completed in 1.5.

On the grass, John Gay covered half a mile in 54 3-5. while Foxchase and Dark Warrior were going easy to record 55.

Little Irish jumped very fast when schooled over four hurdles. She is due to make her first appearance at the Invercargill meeting.
