SPECTACULAR CAVALCADE

NATIONAL SONGS AND DANCES Colourful pageantry, featuring the national music and dancing of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and New Zealand, formed the basis of a spectacular cavalcade presented in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night. The tastefully-decorated platform provided a fitting background for the vividly-costumed performers, and the excellent singing and dancing appealed to the large audience. • The cavalcade, was preceded by ,a variety concert, interspersed with community singing, the leaders being Mr R. (“Whang”) McKenzie and Mr Harold Davidson, with Mrs Noni Masters at the piano. The proceeds were in aid of the Cadbury Fry Hudson Marching Team, who gave an exhibition of marching. Solos in the cavalcade were sung by Mr Bryan Allpress, Misses J. McFarlane, Edna Hardy, Blanche Errington, and Molly McMillan, Mrs Noni Masters, and Messrs Ted Heaney, Keith McKay, Neill Williams, and Norrie Larkins. Dances were contributed by Misses S. Smith and D. Paterson, and a piano-accordion solo by Mr Ted Heaney. A large chorus also sang. The national reel party consisted of Misses D. Smith, J. Smith, J. Gutsell, and Mr Sew Hoy, with Piper Christen-, sen. Miss Jean Martin represented Britannia and Miss Emily Baxter New Zealand. Entertainment was also given by Mrs Kuini Parata’s Maori party. The following items were given:— ‘ Prelude in G Minor,’ by Mr William Clarke; ‘ Telephoning Santa Claus,’ by Miss Corinne Conly; ‘ Ballet,’ by the pupils of Miss Laura Bain; vocal solos by Mr Harold Davidson; ‘At the Zoo,’ a character duet, by Misses Corinne Conly and Joan Banwell; duet, by Mrs Norii Masters and Mr Davidson.
