NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS JUNIOR TITLE TO/ CANTERBURY RIDER Producing a brilliant sprint 60yds from the finishing tape, L. Lock, a Canterbury. representative, won the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association’s junior road racing championship this morning by 10yds from G. G. Curtis, of Auckland. The rest of the field finished in a bunch, and only inches separated the riders occupying the minor places. The race was held over a. 25-mile course of seven laps at Mosgiel, and, considering that there were several stiff hills to cope with, the winner’s time of lh 9min 21 l-ssec was excellent. The field of 13 which faced. the starter’s pistol included four riders from Auckland, one from Hawke’s Bay, one from Wellington, four from Canterbury, and four' from Otago. At the end of the first lap R. Hughes, of Otago, led from C. Ede of Auckland, and E.. McLellan, of Otago. Hughes still retained his lead on the conclusion of the fifth lap, but by this time G. Curtis, of Auckland, had ridden into second place. W. Mortlocfc, Hawke’s Bay’s only representative, made an excellent break near the end of the sixth lap,, but he had/ the misfortune to shed his chain and 'was scovertaken.
