Miss Ada Vandenberg has been appointed assistant advertising manager of the Melbourne Herald and Weekly Times Ltd. Roberts and infant daughter reached Dunedin .on Thursday after arriving in the Dominion by the Monterey. Mrs Roberts, who comes from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is the wife of Mr Alan Roberts, son of Mr and Mrs W. S. Roberts, of Cannington ■road, Maori Hill, who served with the R.N.Z.A.F. overseas. Mr anjd Mrs Alan Roberts are to make their home in Dunedin. Miss M. F. Gallaher, of Wellington, who has been appointed supervising' director for Free Kindergartens, is paying her first visit to Dunedin. Yesterday afternoon she was entertained by the executive of the Free Kindergarten Association at afternoon tea atthe Otago Women’s Club. Miss Gallaher left this morning on her return north.

Mrs P. A. Joblin is a Dunedin visitor to Christchurch for the New Zealand ladies’ golf championships. Superlative singing was heard by representatives of the musical fraternity and prominent citizens in the Somerset Lounge on Thursday afterndon, when they were the guests of Mr J. A. Jacques, managing director of Colgate-Palmolive Pty. Ltd. The occasion was the preview of a forthcoming radio feature based on the life of the late Dame Nellie Melba., The singer was a young Melbourne woman, Miss Glenda Raymond, who essays the part of Australia’s queen of song in the feature. Miss Raymond's voice, which is being acclaimed by Australian critics, came from a special 30-minute disc, and _ among the several operatic numbers in which it was heard were excerpts from * Faust,’ ‘ Rigoletto,’ and ‘ Lohengrin.’ Afternoon tea was served. The. floral display at the Brown House evoked much favourable comment during the week, when an increasing patronage for week-day afternoon teas bespoke one of the joys of spring.—[Advt.j Red Cross News. - V.A.D.s taking the home nursing lectures are requested to attend a class in bandaging to be held in the Bed Cross Guild Rooms on Wednesday evening next at 7.30 p.m.. Junior Red Cross.—All circles will have received the bi-monthly bulletin which gives members the news and activities of circles in this district, and, we hope, spurs them on to greater efforts, especially as, with Christmas drawing near, there will be so many worthy causes that deserve help. Books, pictures, and small toys have been sent - to the Children’s Ward, Public Hospital, and the Citizens’ Day Nursery, and some of the. older girls are enjoying an hour occasionally helping with the small children at the nursery. Donations amounting to £6 have recently been received from Poolburn', Chasiands, Concord, and Miller’s Flat circles, showing that the country members are working well. Some splendid gifts of children’s garments, as well as quilts, were received from Broad Bay and Kaikorai circles, and these were forwarded to Greece.
