RETURNED MEN WELCOMED
The Macandrew Bay Hall was the scene on Wednesday evening last of a complimentary social tendered by the Women’s Institute when upwards of 300 residents gathered to do honour to the returned men of the district. The president (Mrs Harris) and Mrs Challis (who was responsible for the sending qf parcels to the overseas men extended a very warm welcome to all present. Reference was made to those who had paid the supreme sacrifice, one minute silence being observed as, a . mark of respect. Among those present was Mrs Morrison, the president of the Dunedin centre, Women’s Institute. A bounteous kupper was served, and, items were given by the drama club and by members of Stoke’s Banjo Band, who very generously supplied the music for tne dancing. Mr R. Hellyer and Mr W. Riddell acted as M.C.s • .
