ATTEMPTS ON ROOSEVELT'S LIFE
SECRET SERVICE CHIEF'S REVELATIONS WASHINGTON, September 10. Mr Frank Wilson, the retiring.chief of the United States Secret Service, stated that there were about a dozen attempts on President Roosevelt’s life during the war. All were made by cranks or lunatics. The attempts were made both in the United States and overseas. Mr Wilson declined to disclose details, other than to say that in all eases infernal machines were used. These were usually crude bombs, and none of the attempts got anywhere near Mr Roosevelt. The secret service had a specially constructed truck with which speedily to remove bombs from the White House. >
